(Resolved) Pentaho BA Server - Incorrect Authorization - Versions before 9.4.0.1 and 9.3.0.2 Impacted (CVE-2022-43940)

Overview

The software performs an authorization check when an actor attempts to access a resource or perform an action, but it does not correctly perform the check. This allows attackers to bypass intended access restrictions. (CWE-863)

Products Affected

Pentaho Business Analytics Server versions before 9.4.0.1 and 9.3.0.2 impacted

Description

Pentaho Business Analytics Server versions before 9.4.0.1 and 9.3.0.2 do not correctly perform an authorization check in the data source management service.

Impact

When access control checks are incorrectly applied, users can access data or perform actions that they should not be allowed to perform. This can lead to a wide range of problems, including information exposures and denial of service.

Action

The defect may be mitigated now by removing the Data Access plugin from the software installation.

We recommend you upgrade to the Pentaho Business Analytics Server version 9.5 release or newer. This can also be resolved in the 9.3 version with Service Pack 9.3.0.2 or newer, or the 9.4 release with Service Pack 9.4.0.1 or newer.

Please review the Pentaho End-of-Life policy to ensure you are up to date.
