Overview 

Pentaho Business Analytics Server performs an authorization check when an actor attempts to access a resource or perform an action, but it does not correctly perform the check. This allows attackers to bypass intended access restrictions. (CWE-863)

Products Affected 

Pentaho Business Analytics Server versions before 9.4.0.1 and 9.3.0.3 are impacted.

Description 

Pentaho Business Analytics Server versions before 9.4.0.1 and 9.3.0.3 expose dashboard prompts to users who are not part of the authorization list.

Impact 

When access control checks are incorrectly applied, users can access data or perform actions that they should not be allowed to perform. This can lead to a wide range of problems, including information exposures and denial of service.

Action  

We recommend you upgrade to the Pentaho version 9.5 release or newer. For version 9.4, we recommend updating to Service Pack 9.4.0.1 where this vulnerability is addressed. For version 9.3 we recommend updating to Service Pack 9.3.0.3 or above where this vulnerability is addressed.
