Overview 

Hitachi Vantara Pentaho Business Analytics Server - generates an error message that includes sensitive information about its environment, users, or associated data. (CWE-209)

 

Products Affected 

Hitachi Vantara Pentaho Business Analytics Server versions before 9.4.0.0 and 9.3.0.2, including 8.3.x are impacted.

 

Description 

Hitachi Vantara Pentaho Business Analytics Server prior to versions 9.4.0.0 and 9.3.0.2, including 8.3.x generates an error message that includes sensitive information about its environment, users, or associated data. (CWE-209)

 

Impact 

An attacker may use the contents of error messages to help launch another, more focused attack. For example, an attempt to exploit a path traversal weakness (CWE-22) might yield the full pathname of the installed application. In turn, this could be used to select the proper number of ".." sequences to navigate to the targeted file. 

 

Action  

We recommend you upgrade to the latest Hitachi Vantara Pentaho version 9.4 release. For version 9.3 we recommend updating to Service Packs 9.3.0.2 or above where this vulnerability is addressed.
